also God, I Pity the Violins, which was first posted in December 2020 but the vast majority of which was written & posted in 2021.

...Most of those are ficlets well under 1000 words, to be clear. If you had asked me about some of those I would've said I wrote them in 2020. Time isn't real.

This year I wrote and posted:
Total wordcount according to my spreadsheet 111,260.

Overall Thoughts:
I'm actually really proud of what I wrote this year. I finished one very ambitious fic in--how long was TRSB, three months?--and am nearly done with another even more ambitious fic. I hit burnout right after TRSB but I'm also kinda proud of how kind I was to myself about that.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
In terms of number of fics, not really? Most of what I write is fairly short. But I definitely did not expect my longer fics to get that long. Talk about growing in the telling.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
Would not have predicted that I'd cave and claim two TRSB arts. Lots of people do that every year but I had never felt particularly drawn to a second one until this year--and it wasn't even on my original claim list!

This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most:
Maglor Gets Beat Up A Lot. and God, I Pity the Violins is the star example.

What's your own favourite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
I feel like a broken record but it's a tie between Under Cloud and Under Star and God, I Pity the Violins. I've just had so much fun with them.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
Writing a crossover with a relatively new fandom was a risk for me. I never write in fandoms that I'm not really familiar with. But I did and what I learned is that I'm glad I did.

My best story of this year:
Under Cloud and Under Star, probably.

My most popular story of this year:
God, I Pity the Violins

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Oh, I don't know.

My least favourite story this year:
If I don't like a fic at all I don't post it. That said, As the World Was Young is probably my least favorite simply because I wrote it specifically for the pairing and I'm not a passionate shipper by any means.

Most fun story to write:
Again, a tie between Under Cloud and Under Star and God, I Pity the Violins

Story with the sweetest moment:
Idk, Pies and Presents maybe?

Story with the single sexiest moment:
I can't write sexy to save my life. It's alllll fade to black.

Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
I...don't think I wrote anything particularly dark.

Most overdue:
Maybe Winds of Wrath? OH and also finishing Where the Ocean Meets the Sky and the Land!

Most eye roll-worthy title:
I can't remember which titles I wasn't satisfied with at the time. They all seem fine.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
Mmmm I'm not sure I stepped out of my comfort zone in that regard.

Hardest story to write:
The confrontation chapter of Violins, God that was like beating my head against a wall.

Biggest Disappointment:
I'm pretty pleased with everything, honestly.

Biggest Surprise:
That Echo as of a Child's Voice even happened. And that I finally hit the end of Where the Ocean Meets the Sky and the Land.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Favourite opening line:
"All right, but can you fix it?" (from Lost at Sea)

Favourite closing line:
The River-daughter throws her head back to soak in the warmth and lifts up her hands toward the new light and sings a song of her own devising in its praise. (from Clearer than Clear Water)

In conclusion:
Fic-wise, 2021 wasn't bad.

Fic-writing goals for 2022:
Finish Violins. Maybe write that Accidental Baby Acquisition fic with Elured & Elurin I've been wanting to write for ages. Try to avoid burnout.
