So in the latest installment of strange fic comments...I'm really not sure what to make of it.
On my fic Garden Song on AO3 I've gotten a handful of guest comments (I thought I had that turned off but apparently it's a fic-by-fic setting, which, boo), and they all have very similar names, and they're all...extremely generic one-liners. All are positive! It's not like malicious spam or anything, but it does feel a bit spammy? The names are all a variation PersonName_Number, and if there's one thing the tumblr porn bots have taught me it's how to spot a weird username pattern.
I have no idea what to make of it. Because they're not at all bad, they don't contain any links, they're just...off. Like, "Thank you for sharing your talent" and "This story has touched my heart" and that sort of thing. Like, I didn't really blink when I got the first one, but four of them all on the same fic feels weird.
I did go and make sure all comments on all my fics are set to registered users only again, just in case there is something nefarious, but it honestly seems innocuous, just odd.
(There is also the possibility that these are all real people and they just happen to have very similar username preferences and commenting styles but, uhhhh)
