Reading Wednesday
Aug. 31st, 2022 03:43 pmMoon over Soho, by Ben Aaronovitch - Second book in the Rivers of London series down, and I've officially decided that I like it! I missed Beverly but I liked getting to know Peter's parents a little better, and the look at Nightingale's past. All of the jazz discussion flew right over my head, though, since I know nothing about jazz and like it even less.
Phantom of the Opera, by Gaston Leroux - I read this several years ago and decided to pick it up again on a whim, and somehow I remember liking it better than this time around. It's very melodramatic, which I guess is why it makes for good musical theater, but I can take it or leave it as a novel.
All Good People Here, by Ashley Flowers - I enjoyed this! Very twisty thriller about a journalist who moves back to her small hometown in Indiana to take care of her uncle, and also to investigate the disappearance of a young girl from a nearby town and also the cold case of the murder of her childhood best friend, which was very similar to the current case. It skips back and forth in time from twenty five years ago to present day and it's very effective.
Arrow's Fall, by Mercedes Lackey - Still very much enjoying these Valdemar books, though this one got abruptly rather dark--not really a complaint, since it did the opposite of make me want to put it down. I also liked getting to hear a bit from Rolan in this one.
