We saw the comet! It was finally above the trees tonight (just above), and with our binoculars (god I wish we had a telescope) it was visible as first a small smudge and then, when it got properly dark, as something recognizably a comet, with a tale and everything. I'm so happy we got to see it, with just a couple of days to spare before it's gone for the next few millennia.

And when we turned around there was Jupiter quite bright in the east, and with the binoculars we could see it and three of its moons!

Wow! I live half way up a hill and, for some reason, everything in the sky seems to happen at the other side.

I'm glad you saw it! Despite my being a usually avid backyard astronomer I have not managed this one (too tired, with the way things have been going here of late.)

Binoculars are excellent astronomy tools. Your binocular view was probably as sharp as that of a small telescope. I have had (and built) several telescopes, the biggest being a 10" Dobsonian. They do gather a lot of light, but they are also temperamental.

Space really is cool! :D
